Kites Over Lake Michigan

The 10th Annual Kites Over Lake Michigan kicked off at Neshotah Beach in Two Rivers WI. Kites Over Lake Michigan is the Largest Kite Festival in the Midwest. This 2-day event is held every Labor Week-end, rain, snow or shine, well sort of. The weekend is all about fun, food, music and the star of the festival Kites. This event is held on “Kite Time.”

Kite Time

In other words, “kite time” is based on the wind conditions. Wind conditions need to be just right. I guess you would say that a light, constant breeze is better than blowing harsh winds. We attended on Sunday and the conditions were perfect. We took our grandson who had a great time watching the kites, and wading in the chilly waters of Lake Michigan.

At Dusk

At dusk, fireworks were to take place after the release of the sky lanterns. This magical festival is truly a unique experience. This fun festival has become a family tradition. Each year on Labor Day week-end many families head up north with campers packed. Others head to Lake Michigan to enjoy the sights and sounds of Kites Over Lake Michigan. Picnic Style

This was our first time attending Kites Over Lake Michigan. We brought our grandson and as you can see from the pictures we’re having fun cooling off in the chilly waters of Lake Michigan. My only regret is that we didn’t pack a picnic lunch, bring lawn chairs and towels. We would have loved to have stayed longer and enjoy a gorgeous day at the beach, with a sky full of flying kites.

Making Memories

We had a super fun day at the beach with our grandson, making memories that count. Can’t wait until next year! AirVenture is another summer fun activity.
