Restaurant Style Refried Beans

Equipment

  • Crock-pot, Slow cooker

Ingredients

  • 3 cups dried pinto beans, rinsed and sorted
  • 7 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons chicken bouillon granules
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients except the salt, pepper and oil to the crock-pot.
  • Cook on high for 7 to 9 hours. (My refried beans were done in 7 hours)
  • Use an immersion blender to puree the beans until smooth.
  • Add more water if needed. Add vegetable oil and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve as a side dish with salsa and shredded queso cheese.
