Mini Cheesy Dogs

Welcome Back to Football Friday and the Game Day Recipe. Today’s recipe is for Mini Cheesy Dogs. The dogs are made with crescent rolls, cocktail wieners and cheese. Fast, easy and affordable. The perfect combination when serving a group of hungry football fans. Another plus, these mini cheesy dogs are delicious served with ketchup, mustard or barbecue sauce.

Kids Love Them Too

If your hosting a kids birthday party or it’s summer time and you don’t know what to make your off from school kiddies, why not whip them up a batch of the mini cheesy dogs! My grandkids are ages 7, 5, and 3 and they love these mini, kid finger friendly mini dogs. If you don’t have cocktail wieners, substitute regular size hot dogs and just cut them into thirds.

Hot Dogs

The term for America’s favorite sandwiches (the other being the hamburger) which consists of a frankfurter in an oblong shaped bun. Toppings can include just about anything but the favorite toppings are mustard, ketchup, pickle relish, cheese, sauerkraut and beans,Regular hot dogs are about 6 inches long, while they are also available in foot-long versions. Among the many aliases for hot dogs are wiener dog, frankfurter, and tube steak.

Have a Mini” Party

Pigs in Blanket

A term that is generally used to describe a sausage with an outside covering (blanket). The most common example is a small cocktail sausage wrapped in pie dough and baked, then served as an appetizer. Pigs in a Blanket can also refer to breakfast sausages wrapped in pancakes or any similar style of food.  Corn Dog: Created in 1942 by Texan Neil Fletcher for the State Fair. A corn dog is a frankfurter, dipped in a heavy cornmeal batter and fried. Corn Dogs are served on a stick for easy eating.

  • 1 8 oz tube crescent rolls
  • 16 cocktail wieners
  • 1/3 cup extra sharp cheddar cheese spread
  • ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce


  • Unroll tube of crescent rolls, separate at perforations.
  • Using a sharp knife, place knife in the middle of the wide end, cut down to the tip of the crescent rolls, forming 2 small crescent rolls. Proceed with the remaining crescent rolls. Will have a total of 16 small crescent rolls.
  • Cut a small slit in the top of each cocktail wiener to form a pocket. (Do not cut through the cocktail wiener)
  • With the tip of a butter knife, dip into the cheese spread.
  • Fill each cocktail wiener pocket with a small amount of cheese, set aside and continue with remaining cocktail wieners.
  • Starting at the wide end, roll up one cheese filled cocktail wiener in crescent roll, ending with the tip.
  • Place cheese/tip side up on a baking sheet.
  • Repeat until all cocktail wieners are rolled up.
  • Lightly spray crescent rolls with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Serve with ketchup and/or barbecue sauce
