Is My Cooking Too Boring Or

Am I just playing it safe?

One of the great things about cooking is that we’re usually given as much creative freedom as we dare to use. However, there are a lot of people that tend to stick to the basics because they don’t want to give themselves food poisoning or because they just want a simple meal that they can sit down and enjoy. This is perfectly fine, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t still be creative with our cooking!
So in this post, we’re going to try and encourage you to be a little more expressive and unique with your cooking. This is a great way to discover new types of flavor combinations, but it can also be a fun way to approach cooking which will motivate you to do it more often at home.

Playing with different flavor combinations

There are loads of different flavor combinations that you might not expect to go well until you actually try them! For example, most people would split foods into sweet or savory because that’s generally how we see food. Desserts typically aren’t very salty and most main courses will have lots of umami and saltiness. However, there are loads of situations where we can combine sweet and salty.

Just take a look at these grape jelly BBQ meatballs. It sounds really strange to mix sweet and salty with meatballs, but the flavor combinations just work. It’s a great idea to experiment with flavors, even if the combinations aren’t what you’d expect. You can always look to other foods for inspiration. Don’t be afraid to try new things out!

Be more expressive with your plating

They say that you eat with your eyes before you eat with your mouth. If you’ve ever seen beautiful Instagram pictures of food or dishes served in high-class restaurants, then you’ll know that it’s certainly true! You can absolutely be more expressive with how you plate your food. For example, you could consider adding edible flowers to your plate for a splash of color, or you could even use more garnishes to balance the look of your meals. You can even arrange your food in different ways to make your meals look a lot more interesting. There are so many unique ways to plate food that it can completely change your perception of how something is going to taste, or even make it look a lot more classy than it really is!

Try foods from different cultures

One of the best ways to expand your culinary knowledge is to try food from different cultures. You can taste different desserts from around the world, mains from various restaurants, and even look at what other countries eat for breakfast. This is a fantastic way to get new ideas for your cooking and it opens you up to a new world (literally!) of possibilities. Start with the breakfast and dessert options from your favorite overseas cuisine, then experiment with those flavors, ingredients, and spices that you normally wouldn’t use.
