Hey Everyone! I’m back with another Food Find, featuring my two beautiful granddaughters Willow and Iris. Today’s Food Find is something that is near and dear to my heart, York Dark Chocolate Peppermint Patty. Ohh, do I love a cool and refreshing peppermint patty, straight from the freezer. Truth be told, I love anything that involves mint and chocolate together. (Sorry Kim) Kim is my daughter-in-law and she doesn’t like the flavor combination of chocolate and mint! Can you believe it!! What a shame, a down right shame:) But, Kim does like anything peanut butter and chocolate, so she gets a flavor combination pass.

I remember when I was I kid, almost all restaurant check out counters had peppermint patty’s that you could buy. They were sold for .5¢ a piece as a fund-raiser for non-profit organizations such as the Kiwanis club. You would put your nickel in the slot, push the little lever on the side down and out popped a peppermint patty. You could buy a peppermint patty in this way just about everywhere. From Doctors offices to banks to gas stations. I think you can still purchase a peppermint patty this way but I think they’re now 2 for a quarter. Besides getting a cool and creamy peppermint patty, you were contributing to a great organization. Ok, ok, my mind went on a walk down memory lane…that tends to happen when you get old. Time to get back on track and stop rambling on. Let’s get back to peppermint patty, shall we?

What’s Included

York peppermint patty dessert bites package or box comes with everything you need to make 12 delicious treats. Well I take that back, you will need 3 tablespoons melted butter and 1 1/2 cups cold milk to complete the dessert bites. The box directions are easy to follow and directions for a pie version and a bar version are also given on the box. We went with the cupcake version because I felt they were more kid friendly. I watched a video a youtube that showed how the pie version was made. After watching the video and making the dessert bites, I was glad we took the few extra minutes it takes to make the dessert bites.

They also stated in the video that the filling had a toothpaste, minty flavor and not a true peppermint patty minty taste. While we agreed that the filling didn’t have that icy cool, minty, peppermint patty flavor, it did have a wonderful, subtle, creamy minty taste. In my humble culinary opinion it tasted more like a creamy mint chocolate pie that you’d have at Christmas time. The crumb crust tasted like crushed Oreo cookies minus the cream filling and the chocolate fudge sauce tasted like fudge sauce! Overall, York Peppermint Patty Dessert Bites were a huge hit in our house. Will we make peppermint patty dessert bites again? You betcha:)

What You’ll Need to Make

  • One box No Bake York Peppermint Patty Dessert Bites
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups cold milk
  • One muffin tin, 12 cup size
  • 12 paper cupcake liners

The recipe or directions on the box call for placing the muffin pan full of dessert bites in the freezer for one hour before serving. We sampled the dessert bites after an hour and then again the next morning. We, myself, Willow and Papa all preferred the dessert bites after being in the freezer overnight. Iris hadn’t sampled the bites the night before having gone to been early. In the morning when she sampled the dessert bites, Iris thought they were made with ice cream. The only complaint that we had, was that the dessert bites are a bit messy. A good messy but still messy. Our suggestion? Take off the paper cupcake liner and serve in a small bowl along with a spoon.

Easy As 1, 2, 3

No Bake York Peppermint Patty Dessert Bites couldn’t get any easier to make. The step that took the longest was making the crust which only took about 8 minutes tops.

  • Line a muffin pan, 12 cup size with paper cupcake liners.
  • In a small bowl, toss together the package of crust mix and 3 tablespoons melted butter.
  • Divide the crumbs evenly as possible among the paper liners. With the back of a teaspoon press the crumbs down to form a crust.
  • In a large mixing bowl, empty contents of filling mix. Pour in 1 1/2 cups cold milk. Beat on medium speed for 3 minutes. Filling will become thick.
  • Spoon filling into paper liners. With the back of a small spoon, gently spread filling over crust.
  • Knead the packet of fudge topping. Squeeze a small amount of fudge sauce onto each dessert bite.
  • Place muffin tin in freezer and freeze for one hour. Serve. Store in the freezer.

Design Update

Before I say goodbye today, I want to give you an update on the progress of our new blog design. As you know I’m working with Purr Design to give Turnips 2 Tangerines a new look. The new logo is finished and the new blog design should be ready for coding by the end of the week. I can’t express enough what a wonderful and stress-free experience this has been. Our last few blog design experiences were nightmarish to say the lest. Not knowing anything about WordPress or how it works ‘ behind the scenes’ it was difficult to work with blog designers that assumed you know what you’re doing.

This time around I simply told Lindsay roughly what I was looking for and she took it from there. Trust me, this old goat isn’t easy to work with! I didn’t feel rushed, stupid, or anxious at all during this process. I can’t say enough about my experience with Purr Design. I’m so excited to start this new chapter of Turnips 2 Tangerines. If you’re considering getting a new blog design, I highly recommend getting in touch with them. They have a 6 month waiting list, so I would definitely recommend getting your name in ASAP:) With all that being said, I’m going to say goodbye for now and get back to summer:)

Ingredients

  • 1 box No Bake York Peppermint Patty Dessert Bites
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups cold milk

Instructions
 

  • Line muffin pan, 12-cup size, with paper liners.
  • In a small bowl, empty contents of crust mix. Toss together crust mix and 3 tablespoons melted butter. Divide crust evenly between cups. With the back of a teaspoon, gently press down crumbs to form a crust. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, empty contents of filling mix into bowl. Add cold milk and beat on medium speed until mixture becomes thick. Spoon filling mix into paper liners. Using the back of a spoon, evenly spread filling out over crust.
  • Knead fudge topping packet for several seconds. Snip off one corner and squeeze a small amount of topping onto each dessert bite. With the back of a spoon, gently spread out, optional.
  • Place muffin tin in the freezer for one hour or longer before serving. Store in the freezer.
