How Are They Made?

Very easily, friends! We took a loaf of thawed frozen bread dough, rolled it into a large rectangle and brushed the surface with melted butter. A mixture of sugar, ground cinnamon, chopped medrool dates and Paradise chopped orange peel is sprinkled over the surface. You then carefully roll up the dough, encasing all that yummy filling, slice and bake. Finally, they’re drizzled with a simple vanilla glaze. Pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy.

A Word About Dates

Dates have a history stretching back over 5,000 years. This venerable fruit grows in thick clusters on the giant date palm, native to the Middle East. The name is thought to come from the Greek daktulos, meaning “finger,” after the shape of the fruit. Dates require a hot, dry climate and besides Africa and the  Middle East, flourish in California and Arizona. Most varieties range from 1 to 2 inches long and are oval in shape. All dates have a single, long, narrow seed. The skin is thin and papery, the flesh sweet and almost creamy-like. Dates are green when unripe and turn yellow, golden brown, black or mahogany red, depending on the variety, as they ripen.

Recipe Note

We made this recipe in a 9-inch round layer baking pan. You could also use a 13 x 9-inch baking dish or even a 9-inch springform pan. Please keep in mind that depending on the type of pan you use, will determine how much your rolls will rise and baking times will vary. Experiment with different pan sizes until you find one that you like. Just think of all of the delicious cinnamon rolls you can eat!!
