Pecan Pie M & M Candy Fudge
Both my son and daughter-in-law are teachers, so whenever I go on one of my fudge making marathons, I can always count on them to bring extra fudge to school. Even though my son-in-law Fred is my go-to fudge guy, this past weekend I went with Kim to our annual Stampin’ Up, Holiday Stamp Camp and brought with me this fudge for her to bring to school. Kim said it was a “Fan Favorite,” not making it to first period.
New “Pecan Pie” Flavor
Pecan Pie candy fudge is made with the ‘new’ pecan pie flavored m & m’s. My biggest ‘candy’ weakness is for m & m’s. To me eating a bag of m & m’s isn’t the same as let’s say eating a king size candy bar. Eating a handful of m & m’s seems to me anyway, to contain fewer calories than a big ol’ candy bar. All of the ‘flavors’ of m & m’s that I’ve tried have been super good. My favorites being the Mint and Holiday White Peppermint flavors. I love the combination of chocolate with the flavor of cool mint. Sorry Kim.
Two ‘New’ Flavors
This year, the two new flavors we tried were pecan pie and pumpkin pie flavored m & m’s. What can I say, I loved them both. No surprise there! I actually liked the pumpkin pie flavored better than the pecan pie flavored only because the pumpkin pie flavored has a more subtle flavor. Both inspired me to make a batch of fudge. Last year I tried the candy corn flavored m & m’s and made White Chocolate Candy Corn Fudge .
Fast and Easy
Pecan Pie m & m candy Fudge is made with the same recipe that I use when making all the fudge here on Turnips 2 Tangerines. We use the same basic fudge recipe but change it slightly to allow for different taste flavor sensations. We make this recipe taste different just by changing the chocolate chips used, candy and nut additions used and sometimes with only the slightest change, just by changing the extract or flavoring used.
M & M Candy has been a favorite for generations. Below is a Brief Timeline of M & M Candy from 1941-2011.
The 1940’s – 1950
In 1941, M & M’s® Brand Chocolate Candies were introduced as military rations during World War II. In 1948, packaging changed from tube form to the characteristic brown pouch we know today. In 1950, The first “M” is imprinted on the candies in black, giving the chocolate candies a unique
trademark. By 1954, M & M’s® Brand Peanut Chocolate Candies launched. The tagline “Melts in Your Mouth, Not in Your Hands” was born.
1950’s , 1960’s and 1970’s
The world famous M & M’s® characters made their television debut in the late 1950’s. In 1958, MARS moved to a new plant in Hackettstown, New Jersey, mainly due to the success of M & M’s® plain chocolate candies. In 1960, three new colors, red, green and yellow were added to the color mix. Yellow and Red were introduced as the first M & M’s® Brand spoke candies. In 1976, orange joined the color mix.
In 1980, M & M’s® Chocolate Candies were introduced to Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, The Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK. M & M’s® Chocolate Candies rocketed into space in 1982 and they have been on every shuttle mission since. In 1988, M & M’s® Brand Almond Candies was introduced.
In the 1990’s
M & M’s® became a NASCAR® sponsor and M & M’s® spokes candies began appearing on the cars in 1990. In 1991 peanut butter candies were introduced and Blue became the new spokes candy after 10 million people voted to add Blue to the color mix. M & M’s® Minis debuted in a small tube, a nod to the original M & M’s® packaging. Green made a successful television debut in 1997.
2000 – 2010
M & M’s WORLD® Store opened its doors in Las Vegas and M & M’s® Candies was named the official candy of the new millennium. Crispy M & M’s® Candies was introduced. In 2002, voters in more than 200 countries worldwide chose from purple, pink or aqua to join the rest of the colors for a limited promotion. The world voted for purple!
In 2004, MY M & M’s® began offering personalized M & M’s® Candies allowing consumers to custom print on vibrant colors of M & M’s® Milk Chocolate Candies. In 2005, M & M’s WORLD® Store opened its second location in The Florida Mall in Orlando, Florida. Then in 2006, M & M’s WORLD® Store opened in New York City’s famous Times Square and is currently New York City’s largest candy store.
Joining the Permanent Line Up
M & M’s® Dark Chocolate Candies and Coconut Candies became a permanent additions. M & M’s® Peanut Dark Chocolate Candies launched and in 2010, M & M’s® Brand Pretzel Candies made their debut. Once available only as a limited edition, seasonal offering, M & M’s® Brand Mint Dark Chocolate Candies joined the permanent line up in 2011. Raspberry Dark Chocolate Candies launched as a permanent flavor also.
Pecan Pie M & M's Candy Fudge
- 1 10 oz bag pecan pie flavored m & m's, divided
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup evaporated milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 2 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows
- 1 12 oz bag milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Using a small food chopper, coarsely grind 1/2 package of m & m's, set aside. Coarsely chop remaining m & m's and set aside. Save 2 tablespoons for garnish.
- Line 8-inch-square baking pan with foil. Lightly butter.
- Combine sugar, evaporated milk, butter, salt and allspice in medium, heavy-duty saucepan. Bring to a full rolling boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil, stirring constantly, for 4 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Stir in marshmallows, chocolate chips, pecans, vanilla extract and ground m & m's. Stir vigorously for 1 minute or until marshmallows are melted. Stir in coarsely chopped m & m's. Pour into prepared baking pan; sprinkle 2 tablespoons coarsely chopped m & m's on top and lightly press into fudge. Refrigerate for several hours or until firm. Lift from pan; remove foil. Cut into 48 pieces.
