The History of Dump Cakes

According to the website My Food and Family, dump cakes have a serious and loyal following, especially on the potluck circuit. The reason may be because it’s so easy to literally “dump” ingredients into a baking dish, put it in the oven and bake for 45 minutes. In less than an hour you’ll have a delicious homemade dessert.

The exact origins of this dessert are clear. Most believe the dump cake was invented around the same time cake mixes arrived on the cooking scene. The first versions of dump cakes used canned cherries, canned crushed pineapple and cake mix.
