White Bean Ham Soup

Today is another chilly day here in Northern WI. Temperatures are in the low 30’s with more rain and a few flurries farther north. It won’t be long now and the clocks with “fall back.” The evening darkness will arrive by 4:15 pm. Now that the colder weather is here to stay, It’s Officially Soup Time! Soup Time is favorite of mine. Soup can literally be made with any thing and it will turn out delicious. White bean ham soup will soon become a fan favorite!

Showtime Rotisserie

White Bean and Ham Soup is so delicious. We love any soup made with white beans. In fact, we love anything made with white beans. Cannellini beans, great northern beans, baby lima beans, you name ‘em, we love ‘em. We recently put a ham on our Ronco Showtime Rotisserie and BBQ Oven. About twice a year, we get out our Ronco Showtime Rotisserie and cook a ham. In our humble opinion, it’s the best and only way to cook a ham.

Recently I have come across Showtime Rotisseries at thrift stores, flea markets and even the Goodwill. Some of these ‘need to have’ rotisseries ‘to make the best damn ham’ are selling for an unbelievably low price. Some going for as cheap as $5.00. (for a large rotisserie) Considering the larger rotisseries when for around $150.00 at their prime, this is a huge bargain. I bought a smaller version at the Goodwill recently for $2.00. C’mon now!

Ways with Ham

There are so many things you can do with ham. Not only are ham sandwiches delicious but so are omelettes, scalloped potatoes and ham, and of course soup. Another way to use ham is to grind it in a meat grinder. Deviled ham sandwiches and ham croquettes are a great and different way to eat left-over ham. I like to save the meaty ham bone and freeze it until I’m ready to make this soup. What do you like to make with Ham?

  • I always mean to save the bone to make a soup, but then never get around to it. I've never thought to freeze the bone though! Your soup looks delicious! Thank you for sharing it on Foodie Friday

    • Hi Adelina! I always save and freeze the bone from ham and my Thanksgiving turkey to make soup with later on. You can even freeze the shells from shrimp, and use the shells to make a fish stock! Thanks for stopping by and have a great day~

My mom used to make it all the time and we just couldn't wait to sink our spoons into the rich broth. Forward ahead many more years and I have all but forgotten this recipe. Thanks for sharing it!
