Gravy over Lakeland Texas Toast/Bread

Gravy over Texas toast/bread is a blast from my past. Thanksgiving and left-overs go hand in hand and this has got to be one of the easiest ways possible to serve left-over gravy. Fast, easy and delicious, not to mention affordable, a few pennies per serving affordable.

Blast From the Past

When I was growing up Thanksgiving left-overs included warmed gravy over thick slices of white bread. My mom Aggie would pour warmed left-over Thanksgiving gravy over slices of Mrs. Karl’s white bread. As I got older and indulged in this childhood treat, I would spoon warmed gravy over thick slices of Texas Toast/Bread. This is still one of my favorite ways to indulge in holiday left-over gravy.

As I have mention many times before, my mom Aggie was a dreadful cook. She knew and we knew it but I actually thought she had a recipe for this blast from the past! I liked it and eagerly waited for lunch the next day so I could have gravy over white bread. After all, this one of the things Aggie made that was good! I will say, Aggie could make good gravy. In fact whenever we had left-over gravy…turkey, chicken, beef or my favorite pork, the next day you could count on having warmed gravy over slices of white bread.

No recipe required

No recipe is needed…Simply warm left-over turkey, chicken, beef or pork gravy in saucepan over medium heat until warm. Lay 2 slices of white bread or 2 slices of thick Texas bread per serving on a plate. Spoon warmed gravy over bread, serve and enjoy.
