Pancakes

Think about it, how many times have you made pancakes? But what do you really know about pancakes. Pancakes are one of the oldest forms of bread. The versatile pancake has hundreds of variations and are served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They can be served as appetizers, entrèes and desserts. Pancakes begin as a batter that is poured into rounds, either on a griddle or in a skillet and cooked over medium high heat.

These round cakes vary in thickness from the wafer-thin French Crepe to the much thicker American breakfast pancake. Pancakes can also be called hotcakes, griddlecakes, and flapjacks. Many countries have specialty pancakes such as the Hungarian Palacsinta, the Russian Blini and of course the one everyone knows, the Swedish Pancake. The American pancake is most often served with maple syrup.
