Christmas Candy Idea's: Anise Candy

Anise Candy

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 6 drops red food coloring
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons anise flavoring 
Cooking Directions
  1. Butter a baking sheet, set aside.
  2. In a heavy-duty small saucepan, combine the sugar, water, corn syrup and food coloring. Cook and stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil. Boil without stirring until a candy thermometer reads 300ยบ (hard-crack) Remove from the heat. Stir in the anise extract. Immediately pour onto prepared baking sheet. Quickly spread into a 13 x 9 inch rectangle using a metal spatula. Using a sharp knife, working quickly, score into 1 inch squares. Let stand at room temperature until dry.
  3. Re-cut along score lines until candy is cut into squares, separate into squares, using a knife if necessary, or break into bite size pieces.
  4. Store in an air tight container.
